The building that is now home to the Touchdown Tavern was built in 1896 by Reedsburg Building & Lumber Company.
Edward M. Hackett was
the architect.
The two-story red brick structure with stone trim and arched windows is in the Second Empire style. This fine example of architecture is on the National Register of Historic Places.
It was formerly known as the Roper Hotel and at one time had 17 guest rooms; a sitting room and parlor on the first floor, a bar, a reading room, and three private rooms with kitchen and dining facilities.
Today, the main floor houses the restaurant and bar, and while the upstairs has been turned into one large apartment, the building has retained its architectural integrity throughout the years. |
